Benchmarks: X2 - The Threat
X2 - the Threat sets you up as a character in the X universe. Here you will trade, fight, build and think your way to the top of the ranks as a trader, a pirate, a bounty hunter or a miner. The demo of this game offers a benchmark that puts your system through a series of tests set to stress your system to the limits. This benchmark encompases almost every concievable technique into seeing how your system, and especially your graphics card will perform. You can download the demo here.
Standard tests show a slight advantage for the P4 system running the 5950 Ultra. Falling just a little behind is the A64 system also running the 5950 Ultra. Both systems however seem to be at a standstill at higher resolutions. It's no surprise that this benchmark's winner is an nVidia based card as this game was developed in cooperation with nVidia.
This is where the scores get a little fuzzy. It seems like there is very little deviation between any of the setups when we jack up the AA to 4X and the AF to 8X. The winner, if we can call it that, is the P4 system running the 9800XT. This is just to show that even on an nVidia colaboration, an ATi card can still pull the top scores, especially at top settings.
