FutureMark's PCMark04
PCMark04 is the latest generation of the very popular system benchmark released by FutureMark. This benchmark measures overall system performance and can accurately determine how a processor will measure up against its competitors. This benchmark uses public domain applications which will reflect real world application performance. You can download FutureMark's PCMark04 here.
PCMark04 consists of four tests, a CPU test, a memory test, a graphics test and a HDD test. The only relevant tests for this particular processor is the CPU and memory ones, since it would useful to see if the integrated memory controller will give the Athlon64 an advantage.
Intel seems to have the advantage here since this test always seemed to have loved Intel and SSE2, even though AMD processors do support this SIMD instruction. The gap is very similar between both CPU and memory scores, making it seem like having the memory controller integrated is negligible on performance.
PCMag Business Winstone 2002
PC Magazine's Business Winstone tests a system on how well it performs daily tasks that a normal user would perform. It renders a score depending on how long it takes to complete each task. This test should emulate the performance during regular office work activities. Due to the various programs that this benchmark utilizes to test the system, you can only order the benchmark here.
The 3400+ performs extremely well in this test, completely destroying its opposition. Even though it is clocked at a lower frequency than the Pentium 4s, it delivers awesome performance in this test. You can see that AMD has a strong background in this test as even the 3200+ beat out the Intel chips by a significant margin.
