Overclocking
After a BIOS flash, I was no longer able to play around with the FSB like I was able to. Therefore, I was unable to see if I could push the RAM further than 400MHz. However, I was able to play around with the memory timings and was able to push the RAM up to the advertised 2-3-2-6, but was getting some memory errors. The best I was able to get with the RAM was 2-2-2-8 with 100% stability.
Conclusion
Crucial Technology is long overdue in having their own performance line and they make quite an entrance with their Ballistix lineup. It's unfortunate that I was unable to push the RAM up to higher speeds, but I have no doubt that if we were able to, we could push the RAM further than the rated 400MHz. The aggresive memory timings available are a big plus giving it an extra boost in performance over other RAM modules out on the market.
Although changing your RAM will not give you a significant boost in performance, if you're seeking to get as much speed out of your computer, BallistiX should be a name to consider whenever you think of purchasing your next memory modules. At 138.99 USD for a 512MB stick it shouldn't put a hole in your pocket either.
